On September 29, in Montemor-o-Novo, Cooperativa Integral Minga hosted a community event dedicated to disseminating knowledge about community-based affordable and cooperative housing solutions, and to getting to know potential inhabitants of a cooperative housing project. Approximately 25 members of cooperatives and curious attendees gathered for the event, titled “Design, Build, and Live,” which was organized by the Housing and Construction Section of Cooperativa Integral Minga and directly inspired by the results of the DASH knowledge exchange.
This event marked the third public session of the project, fostering collaboration among residents of the municipality and those interested in establishing their homes in Montemor-o-Novo. The gathering focused on collectively addressing the housing needs and aspirations of individuals who have yet to secure suitable living arrangements, as well as on how each participant could contribute to the setting up of cooperative housing projects in Minga.
Central to the discussions were the CHEE (Economic and Ecological Cooperative Housing) projects. Over the course of nearly three hours, participants engaged in interactive activities designed to enhance their understanding of how to integrate existing housing initiatives or develop new proposals tailored to their specific requirements. These activities not only encouraged creative thinking but also promoted collaboration among participants, highlighting the power of community engagement in shaping housing solutions.
The enthusiasm and collaboration of the community were truly inspiring, and we look forward to continuing these important conversations as we work together to build affordable housing solutions for all.
