Individual secondments play a crucial role in fostering networking activities within the DASH project. They facilitate the exchange of knowledge between participating organizations, promoting interdisciplinary and intersectoral collaboration. These secondments provide valuable opportunities for researchers and practitioners to enhance their transferable skills, benefiting both academic and non-academic partners. By working together for extended periods, participants can engage in interactive actions to develop innovative ideas and products that align with social housing policies and practices. In total, there are 146 person- months dedicated to secondments, involving 28 individuals from 12 participating organizations.
In November 2024, the Municipality of Braga took part in a secondment to Serbia, exploring affordable housing policies and urban planning practices. Through visits, meetings, and international events, the team exchanged knowledge and reinforced its commitment to sustainable development and inclusive housing within the scope of the DASH project.
From 2nd to 16th October 2024, Aleksandar Jevtic and Ivana Momic from the Serbian association of Urban Planners (SUPA) conducted secondments in Germany as part of the DASH project. The plan was to meet with urban planners, spatial planners and experts in various fields to discuss planning systems in Germany, in order to undertake a comparative study of the planning systems of Germany, Portugal, Denmark and Serbia, with a focus on social housing.
During a 10-day secondment (6 days in Lisbon and 4 days in Porto), Prof. Claus Bech-Danielsen from Aalborg University explored architecture, urban renewal and housing areas in Portugal. Study trips and meetings at the University of Lisbon and at Domus Social in Porto provided an interesting way to compare housing policy, social housing, transformation and architectural development in Portugal and Denmark.
A brief autumn visit to our new Portuguese partners offered rich insights into integrated social housing practices in Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia—highlighting how both companies combine planning, management, and care to tackle affordability, community resilience, and urban regeneration.
Vulnerable groups of forced migrants continue to face vast challenges in accessing housing in Berlin and Potsdam. Nina Amelung, ICS-Universidade de Lisboa, visited Inwole e.V., DASH partner, in Potsdam and explored migrants’ long and diverse paths to safe and permanent housing.
Exploring Danish housing practices to gain practical insights for improving social housing in Porto—and, through international and multisectoral common efforts, seek ways to hack systemic, planetary housing inequality. Secondment was conducted by Elsa Marques, Joana Monteiro, Olga Feio and Sara Neves.
A team of 22 DASH team members from eight partner institutions from Denmark, Portugal, and Germany conducted secondments in Serbia, from April to December 2024.
GAIURB’s DASH team – Carla Pires, Sofia Morais, Ana Azevedo, and Joana Azevedo – during two weeks in November and December 2024, conducted its secondment to Denmark, focusing on Copenhagen's innovative housing strategies. This immersive experience provided a deep insight into Denmark's progressive approach to housing policies and urban planning.
In September, Dejan Doljak, from the Geographical Institute “Jovan Cvijić” SASA, visited Vila Nova de Gaia, Portugal. Ricardo and João, from the local municipal housing company, Gaiurb, showed him some of the work done by Gaiurb in different neighborhoods there.
On August 15th, 2024, the DASH team visited the city of Čačak as part of their secondment activities in Serbia. The visit was organized by two DASH consortium members, the City Housing Agency Čačak (CHAC) and the Geographical Institute “Jovan Cvijić” SANU. As guests of the municipality, the team had the opportunity to visit social housing projects in different neighbourhoods of the city and get a sense of the various housing options that are provided in Serbia to different vulnerable low-income groups.
